2017-18 Season Update

The 2017/2018 season is underway and we are approaching stop #3 on the PBC Trail. This season has started off okay. Stop #1 at Russell was a tough one mostly because I don't have much experience on that lake. Also, my partner David and I didn't fish as clean as I would have liked to. We missed a few fish, had a few come off, short fish, etc. The main thing is we are learning. I was able to catch a fish on a carolina rig, a bait that is proven to catch fish but I rarely use. Luckily we were able to put together a pattern to catch us a few. Stop #2 was an exciting tournament for me. We went to Lake Wylie for the Riley's Cup tournament. This is the first time the PBC Trail went there so I was anxious to get out there. Lake Wylie is also where my high school fishing career kicked off. In 8th grade, I went to Wylie for my first tournament ever. It was great to return there and see where my high school fishing career got started, something I will never forget. Practice proved the lake wasn't fishing the best and tournament day was even worse. No excuses to be made but it was super tough for the majority of the field so David and I were able to get 61st out of 300+ boats. Now, looking forward is stop #3 of the PBC Trail on Lake Hartwell. This tournament could either go good or bad. This lake is where I grew up fishing and where I have the most history. That can either aid me or destroy me. Getting overconfident and fishing history are the main concerns. When fishing your home lake, the biggest thing I have learned is to approach it like you have never seen it before. The advantages of fishing your home lake are you know it well and you have history there. That is also the disadvantages. Last season I learned a good hard lesson on fishing history. I fished place I knew that I caught fish in the past and I spun out in a TBF tournament. As of lately I have started studying fishing more and what I have learned is really significant and I already see the advantages. I am very excited to get on the water for this next tournament.
